So many people are desperate to feel at peace; many of you would give a lot to be free of anxiety and fear — but, the journey toward that elusive feeling is often misdirected. We live in a society that has just about convinced us that peace is something that we achieve through possessions, prestige or power; so many families and individuals are in great turmoil because they have bought into all of that. The Season of Advent has a different approach to the formula of peace. A Savior! Jesus Himself said, "My peace I offer you — not like anything the world has to offer" (John 14:27). But, before Jesus said that, John wrote that He came unto His own — with the offer of peace — but, His offer was rejected. Why? Because then, even as now, the majority of people are looking for peace from the outside in — rather than the inside out.
Just think about how the Christmas season has become so commercialized — how people say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas." We watch the stock market report and, for a day, feel better if the stocks are higher, but disappointed the next day when they are down. In other words, for many, the condition of the world determines a level of peace more than does a relationship with the Prince of Peace. You need to remember Jesus’ offer of peace this week. You need to slow down, take a deep breath, look deep within yourself and find the true meaning of the word "peace" — a contentment in times of confusion; a freedom in times of chaos; a certainty when all seems lost…in other words, a genuine relationship with the one called "Peace" — Jesus Christ. So many know about Him, but so few really know Him. Take some time today (and everyday) to grow your relationship with your Savior, the Prince of Peace. He is waiting for you…and waiting to give you Peace!
May the Lord bless you and keep you, The Lord make His face to shine upon you, And give you….Peace
